A fluffy pocket bread known as pita bread is made from wheat flour, milk, and yeast. The flatbread recipe is widely popular in the middle east and its surroundings. You don’t need fancy ingredients or equipment to make this pocket bread. All you have to do is mix milk, water, yeast, flour, and salt. Then knead them to make a fluffy dough and turn it into small cute pita bread.

Pita Bread Ingredients
- All-purpose flour 4cups
- Warm milk 2/3cup
- Warm water 2/3cup
- Instant dry yeast 1 tbsp
- Sugar 1 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Olive oil 3 tbsp
- Melted unsalted butter for garnish
- Chili flakes for garnish
- Chopped coriander leaves for garnish
Directions for Making Pita Bread
Pour Milk into Mixing Bowl
Firstly, take a large mixing bowl and pour the warm milk into it. The milk should be bearable to touch.
Pour Water into Bowl
Then pour warm water into the mixing bowl. Make sure the water is not hot, nor cold it should be warm enough so that if you dip your finger it is bearable to touch.
Add Yeast, Sugar, & Salt
Now in the bowl of milk and water, add instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Then mix them well using a spoon or spatula.
Add Flour & Mix
Once the mixture for pita bread is ready, then add flour into the bowl and mix it well with your hands to make a dough.
Pour Oil & Knead the Dough
Then pour olive oil into the dough and knead it to make it smooth and lump-free.
Let the Dough Rise
Once the dough for pita bread is ready, put it in a clean bowl and cover it with a cling wrap. Then put it in a warm place for an hour to rise.
Cut the Dough
After the pita bread dough rises, cut it into 6 equal halves using a knife.
Shape the Dough
Then using your hands shape each part of the sliced dough into a round ball.
Roll the Dough
Now dust the surface with flour and roll the ball shape dough into a flatbread. One by one roll each round ball.
Cook the Flatbread
After preparing the dough, heat the pan over medium-high heat and put rolled flatbread on the pan. Then cook the pita bread for 3 minutes on medium-high heat.
Flip & Cook
Then flip the pita bread and cook from another side for 3 minutes.
Grease, Garnish & Enjoy
After coking, all pita loaves of bread grease both sides of the bread with butter and garnish chili flakes and coriander on top of it. You can serve it with hummus or with baba ganoush.
Tips
- While cooking the pita bread gently press the surface of the bread with a towel to make it puffier.
- You can freeze the risen dough for later use.
- Don’t freeze the dough for more than 6 days.
