As Muslims, it is our belief to ask Allah even for our smallest needs and wishes. There are numerous supplications taught by our Prophet(S.A.W) to ask Allah for fulfilling our wishes and needs. There is also a Nafal prayer taught by Hazrat Muhammad(S.A.W) for this purpose, which is known as Salat ul Hajat. Let’s discuss step by step how to perform Salat ul Hajat.
Salat ul Hajat
Salat ul Hajat or Slat ul Hajah is a Nafal prayer in Islam that is performed to ask Allah for help with your needs and lawful desires. Nafal prayers are those which are not mandatory and missing these prayers doesn't count as a sin. However, performing these nafal prayers is counted as an immense blessing from Allah Almighty. Salat ul Hajat has 2 Rajats with one salam . There is no specific time for praying Salat ul Hajat, you can perform salat ul hajat anytime except during the forbidden hours.

Salat ul Hajat in Hadith
Narrated Abdullah ibn Abu Awfa Jamia Tirmidhi Hadith# 479
The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever has some need from Allah or from any of His creation, let him perform ablution and pray two rak’ah, and praise Allah well after salah and send durood on the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) then let him say the following dua:
Translation for Dua e Hajat:
There is no god but Allah the Clement and Wise. There is no god but Allah the High and Mighty. Glory be to Allah, Lord of Tremendous Throne. All praise is to Allah, Lord of the worlds. I ask you (O Allah) everything that leads to your mercy, and your tremendous forgiveness, enrichment in all good, and freedom from all sin. Do not leave a sin of mine (O Allah), except that you forgive it, nor any concern except that you create for it an opening, nor any need in which there is your good pleasure except that you fulfill it, O Most Merciful!
Step by Step Performing Salat ul Hajat
Make sure to do Ablution before starting your nafal prayer, also keep in mind that you are not praying during the forbidden hours. Then lay your prayer mat in the direction of Kaaba. Then stand straight on the mat to offer Salat ul Hajah.
Step 1 Make Intention for Namaz e Hajat
Make intention or Niyyah by slowly saying” I intend to pray 2 Rakats of Salat ul Hajat, facing towards the Kaaba in the presence of Allah Almighty”. The intention is compulsory for every prayer whether it is Fard, Sunnah, or Nafal.
Step 2 Say Takbir
Take your both hands up to your ears while saying “الله أكبر”. Taking hands up to their ears is for men while women have to take their hands up to their shoulders for Takbir.
Step 3 Perform Qayam
Now tie both of your hands below your navel in a way that your right hand should be above your left hand. Women have to tie their hands on their chests.
- Then in the same position recite Sana (سُبْـحانَكَ اللّهُـمَّ وَبِحَمْـدِكَ وَتَبارَكَ اسْمُـكَ وَتَعـالى جَـدُّكَ وَلا إِلهَ غَيْرُك)

Then place both of your palms on both of your knees and recite Tasbeeh ( سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ) while staying in this position. You can recite Tasbeeh a minimum of three times. However, for a longer Ruku in Hajat prayer, you can increase the Tasbeeh.
Step 5 Perform Qooma

Step 6 Perform First Sajdah
Bow down your head on the ground while saying“الله أكبر". In the meantime place both the palms straight on the ground. Also, place your nose and forehead on the ground. Then recite Tasbeeh(سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى) three times while staying in this position. You can increase the recitation of Tasbeeh for a longer Sajdah.
Step 7 Perform Jalsa
Then while saying “الله أكبر” raise your head from the prostration position. Then sit on the ground before performing the second sajdah of First Rakat. Remember you have to sit in Jalsa for some seconds.
Step 8 Perform Second Sajdah
Again bow down your head on the ground for the second sajdah. Then again recite Tasbeeh (سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى) three times. Now the first Rakat of Salat ul Hajat is completed here.

Then recite (رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَّفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَّقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ). You can recite other recommended supplications at the end of Quood after reciting Durood-e-Ibrahimi.
Step 11Perform Tasleem
Then offer Salam on both your right and left side. firstly, turn your head towards your right shoulder and say (السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ). Then turn your head towards your left shoulder and again say ( السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ). Salat Ul Hajat Rakats are completed.
Step 12 Recite Hajat Supplication
After completing both Rakats sit on the prayer mat and then recite the supplication for Hajat prayerلا إِلَهَ إلاَّ اللهُ الحَلِيمُ الكَرِيمُ، سُبْحَانَ اللهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ العَظِيمِ ، الحَمْدُ لِلهِ رَبِّ العَالَمِيْنَ ، أَسْأَلُكَ مُوجِبَاتِ رَحْمَتِكَ ، وَعَزَائِمَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَالْغَنِيمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ بِرّ،ٍ وَالسَّلامَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ إِثْمٍ ،لاَ تَدَعْ لِيْ ذَنْباً إِلاَّ غَفَرْتَهُ، وَلاَ هَمَّاً إِلاَّ فَرَّجْتَهُ، وَلاَ حَاجَةً هِيَ لَكَ رِضاً إِلاَّ قَضَيتَهَا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ. Its recommended to praise Allah Almighty and send Durood and Salam n Muhammad (S.A.W) before supplication. Then ask Allah for help to fullfil your need or to ease your difficulty.
Conclusion

But still praying Salat ul Hajat is considered authentic according to Islamic Scholars. Imam Tirmidhi has classified it as Hasan Gharib, thus he writes: this hadith is Hasan Gharib. (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith Number: 479) So, this narration is practicable.
