Ishraq Prayer

Ishraq prayer is the Nafal prayer in Islam, which is prayed for getting extra rewards from the Almighty. Missing Nafal prayer is not a sin, however, performing it is a great reward. Ishraq Prayer is prayed 45 minutes after sunrise, you can pray Ishraq a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 12 Rakats. It is better to recite various Azkar after fajr prayer and then pray Ishraq, or you can pray Ishraq prayer after taking some rest.

Ishraq Prayer In Hadith

Narrated  Sayyidina Anas Tirmidhi Hadith # 586

‘Whoever offers his Fajr salah in congregation, and then remains seated remembering Allah until after sunrise, and then he offers two rakats of salah (Ishraq), will receive the reward of one complete Haj and one complete ‘Umrah’

Step by Step Performing Ishraq Prayer

Before starting your prayer make sure to clean yourself by doing Wudu. Must check on the time of sunrise in your area to be sure of Ishraq's timing.

Step 1 Make Intention for Ishraq

Lay down the prayer mat on the clean ground towards the direction of Qibla, then stand on the prayer mat facing yourself towards Qibla and then make an intention of Ishraq prayer by saying" I intend to perform 2 Rakats Ishraq prayer, facing towards Kaaba in the presence of Allah Almighty".

Step 2Recite Takbir

Raise your both hands up to your ears while saying “الله أكبر”. Men raise their hands up to their ears while women raise their hands up to their shoulders.

Step 3 Perform Qayam

After Takbir, staying in the same position bring your hands back and tie them below your navel. Make sure your right hand should be above your left hand. For women, it is recommended to tie their hands on their chests.

  • Start Qayam in ishraq prayer by reciting Sana (سُبْـحانَكَ اللّهُـمَّ وَبِحَمْـدِكَ وَتَبارَكَ اسْمُـكَ وَتَعـالى جَـدُّكَ وَلا إِلهَ غَيْرُك)
  • Then you have to recite Surah Fatiha.
  • After reciting Surah Fatiha recite Surah Ikhlas or any other Surah that you remember.

Step 4 Perform Ruku

Now staying in the same position, while saying “الله أكبر” bend down your body in a way that your face is towards the ground. Then you have to place your palms on your knees and recite Tasbeeh ( سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ) while staying in this position. You have to recite Tasbeeh a minimum of three times, however, it can be increased for a longer Ruku.

Step 5 Perform Qooma

Then rise up your body from Ruku reciting(سمع الله لمن حمده). Then in a standing position recite(رَبَّنـا لَكَ الحَمْـدُ).

Step 6Perform First Sajdah

Now you have to bow down on the ground saying“الله أكبر“. Then place both of your hands straight on the ground and place your nose and forehead on the ground. In this position, you have to recite Tasbeeh(سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى) three times. You can increase the recitation of Tasbeeh for a longer prostration.

Step 7 Perform Jalsa

Then raise your head from the ground saying “الله أكبر”. Now sit on the ground for a few seconds before performing the second sajdah.

Step 8 Perform Second Sajdah

Bow down again on the ground to perform the second sajdah in the same way as you bow down for the first sajdah. Then you have to recite Tasbeeh (سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى) three times. Here the first Rakat of Ishraq prayer is completed.

Step 9Stand Up to Perform Second Rakat of Ishraq Prayer

After completing the first Rakat, stand up saying “الله أكبر” to perform the second Rakat.

  • Then perform Qayam.
  • Make Ruku.
  • Perform Qooma.
  • Bow down for First Sajdah.
  • Then complete Jalsa.
  • Now perform Second Sajdah as done in the first Rakat.

Step 10 Perform Quood

Sit on the ground and place both of your palms straight on your thighs. Then you have to recite At-tahiyat, after reciting At-tahiyat sitting in the same position recite Durood -e- Ibrahimi. then in the end of Quood recite (رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَّفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَّقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ) . You can recite other recommended supplications at the end of Quood after reciting Durood-e-Ibrahimi.

Step 11 Perform Tasleem

End your 2 Rakats prayers with Salam. First, turn your head towards your right shoulder and say (السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ). Then you have to turn your head towards your left shoulder and again say ( السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ).
